09/30/11 Hands
At first I just started drawing the hand. My goals going into the drawing were to be proportionate and shadow smoothly. I was very pleased with the outcome. The shadowing worked out nicely and the details are pleasant and lifelike. I decided to add the box of dog bones to complete the drawing.
Jessica Biel - Working on proportions and noses
In this photo, i just wanted to focus on proportions and drawing a decent nose. It is quite cartoonish so I would like to redraw her one day and make it less so.
09/16/11 Erasing
In this picture, I used the erasing technique to show the use of space. I erased to create the path, clouds, and the tree, to show light, and to show the space around the left side of the tower. Goya used techniques to strongly contrast light and dark. He uses crosshatching to shadow. I wanted to show a global depiction similar to the christmas glass decorations that are filled with water, but i wanted it to be medium toned with the details in highlight. I successfully used an eraser for that. Most of my art is somewhat real and somewhat abstract. This shows that.
09/09/11 Professor In Interior
In this portrait, my proportions are way off. I guess I did capture the over-all mood of the moment and professor. It was one of my first times working with charcoal, which was a challenge. I tried to use the red watercolor to help with shadowing, but I ended up ripping the paper when I went over it with charcoal. I somewhat portrayed the space around the figure, but my touch was too hard with the charcoal. The shadowing wasn't bad and I think the best part of the portrait is the collared shirt.
09/02/11 Classmate portrait: "Palmer"
In my drawing, the proportions are a little off. I over-exaggerated some features and under-exaggerated others. It is very cartoonish. If I could change this, I'd work with a softer pencil and use less actual lines and more hinty shadowing.
Father Time
This is a depiction of father time. I was inspired to create this when I saw the "Stairway to Heaven" poster. I plan on making this part of a poster, or just leaving it as is. I focused on shadow and proportion. I was pleased with this piece, as I was really excited to start sketching it, and I stayed very focused while creating it. I used #2 pencil HB and colored pencil for the light.
